While this is true, the modernists took this quote and took it thus far which paved way to modern art as they call it. Today, the discipline of art has grown down to the point where standards were ignored and pushed stronger the idea of personal expression.

Jacob Rosenberg, the great historian, wrote that quality in art entails not only personal opinion but also a high degree of traceable objectivity. Without proper standards, there is no way of differentiating quality and inferior work.
Who will determine quality?
We all know of situations where professional expertise is acknowledged and depended upon. Take figure skating in the Olympics, where artistic excellence is judged by experts in the field. Surely we would flinch at the contestant who indiscriminately threw himself across the ice and demanded that his routine be accepted as being as worthy of value as that of the most disciplined skater.
This being said, in the field of artwork such as painting and sculpture, who should be the judge of beauty to determine quality. Where have our experts gone? Where are the professionals who studied art for most of their lives? For sure, they are out there. They remain in silence despite the anger towards what modern art has to offer today.
Determine What is Art and What is nNot
People of the art community, head of museums, gallery owners, and critics – they too are in fault of today’s “modern art”. Let this be an eye opener to the so called artists of today. Appraise your work, add quality and some standard into it. Your work should not just be a matter of what you think but it should be a work that represents expression, objectivity, the community, and idealism. Can you honestly say that your work can compare to the work of the masters of art in the past? Does it deserve to be called a work of wonder and amazement?
