The Great Art of Sewing

My mother was a great seamstress and quilter. She made pillows, curtains, and bed sheets by hand stitching them. She had been custom sewing too just like she has sewn my wedding dress, customized to my liking. She made her own clothes, my brother’s clothes, and even my own dress when I was younger. My mom’s finished projects, like the quilt that I have on my bed, had always been professionally done.

You see the art of sewing never dies. It had been with used perhaps since the beginning of time. Momma used to tell us that sewing is one of the best arts that kids should learn. Just like Leonardo Di Caprio making his masterpiece, mom sews her way to her masterpiece too.

Mom’s sewn masterpieces

1. Wedding Dress. This was my wedding dress. She has sewn this for a month or two. She made sure that everything was right. I modeled in front of her, waiting patiently for her to get the right measurements and cuts and it turned out to be okay.

2. Quilted comforter and pillow cases. This is one of my mom’s favorite projects. It never fails to bring a smile on her customer’s faces. The quilted comforter my mom made for me is one of my favorites too. It reminds me of home.

3. Handstitched dress. My mom made a lot of dresses that I consider a piece of art. Our neighbor was born and raised in India, and being patriotic as she was, she asked my mom to create a traditional dress for her with a touch of modern style. The outcome was just so awesome.

Our neighbors in the block ask her to saw them clothes for their young ones and my mom gladly obliged. Her handmade craft of ideas are loved by so many that she even had an order from the United Kingdom. It was a customized quilted comforter with matching pillow cases.
